What work of art, music, science, mathematics, or literature has surprised, unsettled, or challenged you, and in what way? (250 Words)

Money, power and prestige. Julian possessed everything that I yearned to achieve and considered the epitome of success. The book ‘The Monk Who Sold His Ferrari’ revolves around Julian Mantle, a high-profile attorney with a stressful schedule and a materialistic set of priorities who is forced to confront the spiritual crisis he is in, as his life spirals out of control when he suffers a heart attack in a courtroom. Eventually, Julian successfully renounces his unbalanced lifestyle and travels to India in search of answers to understand the essence of eternal happiness.

For me, the book was about courage, joy, imagination and the power of self-discovery. I found the book to be unsettling as well as surprising due to its revelations about the way life’s meant to be lived. It taught me that success on the outside begins with success on the inside, which can only be achieved through awareness and continuous self-improvement. I also understood, that I need to thoroughly appreciate the significance of all that I have been blessed with and ensure that my actions can make a positive difference in the lives of others and that I must acknowledge that failure will be a part of my life, but I must learn from it and not give up. The secret of happiness lies in simply finding out what I loved and directing all my efforts towards achieving it. Julian’s transformation has inspired me to move out of my comfort zone and face my apprehensions head on.
