Latest F & M Visa Update: International Students Can Apply for USA Student Visa up to 1-Year in Advance From Course Start Date

New international students applying for USA student visas can now conduct the process ahead of their semester date. On February 21st, 2023, the US Department of State, Bureau of Consular Affairs, tweeted and shared on their official website the latest visa update benefitting international students worldwide.
‘’F and M student visas can now be issued up to 365 days in advance of the I-20 program start date, allowing more time for students to apply for a visa.’’ The tweet also revealed that while the visa process can kickstart early, students will not be allowed to enter the USA more than 30 days before the semester begins.
USA is home to the best universities and brands recognized globally. As per US Citizenship and Immigration Services, in 2022, 1,99,812 Indian students traveled to the country for higher education. This means the number of visa applications continues to increase every year.
This visa update impacts only new international students, which means the continuing students still registered at SEVP-approved institutions can continue issuing visas anytime and enter the USA ahead of their semester.
Previously, to apply for a student visa in the USA, international students had to first issue an i-20 form, register for SEVIS and then apply for a student visa. Since you can now apply before the I-20 program start date, students get more time to apply for a student visa.
Since the demand to pursue academics in the USA is high, the processing time per visa is slow, and the visa process is time-consuming for students. This move will significantly help address the issue of visa-related delays. Also, with the advance 365 days timeline to apply for a visa, students can easily apply for a student visa unhurriedly.
